Young Lady Emerges With Overall Best CGPA Of 4.90 As UNN Graduates 9353
Alexandra Umeh, ENUGU, Nigeria (GVE) – Young Miss Chinasa Ofondu has emerged as the overall best graduating student at the graduation ceremony of the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), Enugu.
The institution on 1 December, graduated a total number of 9353 degrees and diplomas students at the 47th convocation ceremony, comprising 7830 first degrees/diplomas including 132 first class graduands, 1523 higher degrees of 340 PhD, 1027 Masters Degrees and 156 Postgraduates Diplomas with Ofondu emerging with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.90 from the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
While sharing her secret to success, she said: “I was not the most read in my class, but I read smart. I knew exactly what course to read now and then.”
Similarly in January 2017, the varsity hosted its 46th convocation ceremony with 10,425 graduated students composed of 94 first class students, 3098 second class upper division, 5145 in the second class honour lower, 1653 in third class and 121 in the pass category, making it two convocations ceremonies in this year.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Benjamin Ozumba who recalled the progress and the achievements of the schools since his assumption of office, noted that the ability of the school to host two convocation ceremonies within one year was a practical testimony and demonstration of the administration’s resolve to improve the academics curriculum of the university with timely release of their computer based results which is in line with the academic’s best practices.
He said: “We have collectively made progress on all fronts. At our first Founders Day celebration in October this year, the University of Nigeria made history as the first University in Africa to commission a LAPTOP ASSEMBLY PLANT.
“In April this year, we kept faith with history again with the public introduction of the ROAR NIGERIA HUB. This is a startup incubation pitch programme as a prelude to the formal takeoff of the UNN Science Park a home to a diverse set of technological competencies.”
On his part, the Chancellor of the university, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ojaja ll congratulated the students and charged them to allow the success record to take them to greater heights in life as they move outside the walls of the university.
The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Chief Mike Olorunfemi in his address urged that the graduated students to believe in themselves regardless the present economic difficulties in the country.
