Over 5,000 APC Members Decamp To PDP In Delta State Barely 48hrs To LG Elections

SOUTH MILWAUKEE WI. (GVE) – The chances of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to usurp power from the Peoples Democratic Power (PDP) in Delta state, have been dealt a huge blow after over 5,000 members of the APC decamped to the ruling party.

Reports reaching Global Village Extra have it that a former candidate of the APC for Sapele Constituency into Delta State House of Assembly, Felix Anirah, led the decampees to the new party barely 48 hours before the local government council election which is scheduled to hold on Saturday, 6 January, in the state.

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa who received the defectors at a rally held in the state on Thursday, said the defection of Anirah and others was a major boost to the PDP ahead of the Saturday’s council election, adding that his administration was doing its best to bring succor to all parts of the state.

Okowa, accompanied by the state PDP chairman, Olorogun Kingsley Esiso, called on all former members of the party who defected to the ruling APC at the centre to ‘return home’, adding that PDP was now better positioned to provide level playing field for all members.

“We cannot lose sight of the fact that it is political party that brought us to where we are today; so, we will continue to welcome our members back to the umbrella party.

“We will continue to work for our people; you should ensure that you go out on Saturday to vote,” he said.

Chief Anirah who also explained why he left the APC, stated that the National Chairman of APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, had called him to prevail on him not to decamp but that he was tired of President Muhammadu Buhari’s style of governance.

He said: “Before I came to this special rally for me to formally dump the APC, APC national chairman called me, begging that I shouldn’t leave the party; but I told him that since APC is no longer convenient for me and my people, we are moving back to our party, the PDP.

“We will test our strength on Saturday during the local government council election.

“The APC will not get any councillor’s seat, but, the victory will be repeated in the general elections so that all will know that PDP is fully in control of Delta State.”

The Chairman of the PDP in the State, Olorogun Esiso, observed that with the defection, there was no opposition to the PDP in Sapele council, appealing to others in the opposition in the state to return to the PDP ahead of the 2019 general elections.
